In the late 90's and early 2000's, LeAnn Rimes was known for being a country/pop singer with hits like, "Blue", "How Do I Live", "Big Deal", "I Need You" and "Can't Fight the Moonlight". These days she's most known for an affair that she had in 2009. But instead of going into that, I'm just going to review her fifth album, "Twisted Angel", which was more of a pop album then her previous, and current, albums which were country (with the exception of "Whatever We Wanna".) So here's my track by track review of the album.
1) Life Goes On: The first single from the album. I heard this song for the first time in 2009, when I was very depressed. When I heard the song it made me smile and cry in a good. It's my favorite song on the whole album. 10/10
2) Wound Up: In this song LeAnn tells a story about a girl named Carrie Ann who has succumbed to the dark side of Hollywood, while continuing to become a bigger star. I think it's a great song and I like the message behind it. 10/10
3) The Safest Place: I like the lyrics to the song and how it talks about "the safest place" is being right there in your partner's arms. That being said it's not a memorable song. 6/10
4) Trouble With Goodbye: I find it funny that the song talks about having a hard time saying goodbye when the chorus has her singing the word in different languages, "Sayonara, adios, Arrivederci, au revoir, auf wirdersehen, cioa bella". I loved dancing around to this song. 9/10
5) Damn: This song is a ballad that is beautiful. It really highlights her voice and vocal range. I'm still surprised how she can hold that note at the end so long. Christina Aguilera may have some competition. 10/10
6) Suddenly: This song was released as the second overall single as well as the final single from the album. It charted better than "Life Goes On" did and in a way I think this would've been a better choice as the first single and "Life Goes On" being second instead. 10/10
7) Tic Toc: This song was released as a promo single from the album. It only charted on the U.S. dance charts. It's definitely a different song for her lyrically. 9/10
8) Sign of Life: I used to like song a lot the first time I heard it. But as time went on it got a little boring. The intro to the song is awesome but the rest of it is kind of a downer. 6/10
9) Review My Kisses: This song was supposed to be recorded by an international recording artist named Lara Fabian but she refused to record it. So LeAnn got the song. Like "Damn", "Review My Kisses" show off her voice perfectly. Funny enough after Lara Fabian heard LeAnn's version of the song decided to cover it. Funny how that works isn't it? 10/10
10) No Way Out: This song is cool. It's verses start slow and then the chorus comes out having a rock sound to it. I love the part where she sings, "It's like a dream you can't wake up from, It's a hunger I can't be satisfied". Wonder why it wasn't a single. 10/10
11) Love Is an Army: It's not that bad, but I hardly listen to the song that much. 7/10
12) You Made Me Find Myself: This song is a cover. It was originally sung by Tina Arena for her album, "Just Me". I haven't heard the original version but I don't like this song that much. 6/10
13) Twisted Angel: The title track. I always get excited for the title tracks on albums because they're usually one of my favorite. It's not the case with this song. To me it's a mediocre track that should've been off the album. 5/10
"Twisted Angel" was unfortunately panned by critics but it's still my favorite album from LeAnn Rimes. My favorite songs on the album are: "Life Goes On", "No Way Out", "Suddenly", "Damn", "Wound Up", and "Review My Kisses". Out of 130 points I give the album 108 which is 83%, a B. Good job LeAnn!
