She's known for playing Olivia on "The Cosby Show", Raven from "That's So Raven", and doing the voice of Iridessa in the Tinkerbell movies. But aside from acting, Raven-Symoné has also released 4 albums, "Here's to New Dreams", "Undeniable", "This Is My Time", and her self-tilted, "Raven-Symoné", which is the album I'll be reviewing today. Here's my track by track review.
1) That Girl: This song was initially titled "Got It Girl" but the titled was changed because of a song on the album being titled "Girl Get It". It's really upbeat and a great introduction for the album. 10/10
2) Anti-Love Song: This was supposed to be the second single from the album, but for unknown reasons it was scrapped. The song talks about how a relationship has ended but the narrator doesn't want to talk about with lyrics, "don't wanna talk about how he broke my heart, don't wanna talk about how we fell apart". It's one of my favorite songs on the album. 10/10
3) In the Pictures: A snippet of the song was played in Raven's film, "College Road Trip". A lot of people who are graduating from school can relate to this one. 10/10
4) What Are You Gonna Do?: Like "Anti-Love Song", "What Are You Gonna Do?" was also supposed to be the second but it was also cancelled. I question why both releases were cancelled considering they're both better than "Double Dutch Bus". This song is perfect radio and would've been a hit if it's release wasn't cancelled. 10/10
5) Green: This is an okay song. It's not bad, but it's not amazing. 6/10
6) Love Me or Leave Me: WOW! Her vocals are amazing on this song! This amazing ballad showcases Raven's vocal talent perfectly. This song is arguably one of, if not the best song on this album. 10/10
7) In Your Skin: I like how the song is saying "be comfortable in your skin", but aside from that it doesn't stand out as much as the other songs do. 6/10
8) Stupid: Like "What Are You Gonna Do?", "Stupid" was produced by Sean Garrett. I debated about this song for awhile. Raven's vocals and the production work but it doesn't feel like Raven is giving her all into the song. 8/10
9) Girl Get It: Despite it's great production, the song is kinda boring. 6/10
10) Keep a Friend: Great message, somewhat okay song. 6/10
11) Shorts Like Me: WHOA. This song is really good. It's only downfall it that it sounds like "That Girl" part 2 with confident lyrics and similar production. 7/10
12) Hollywood Life: This song reminds me of her song "Alice", from "This Is My Time". Her vocals are amazing and the lyrics are great but for some odd reason I always skip this song. I don't know why. 7/10
13) Double Dutch Bus: The first and only single from the album. The song was originally recorded by Frankie Smith. Like "In The Pictures", "Double Dutch Bus" was also featured in her film "College Road Trip". I question why this song was the first single, because it's not good. Despite that her version has an updated R&B and hip hop sound, it's still boring. 5/10
14) Face to Face: This was a bonus track on the Australian version of the album. This amazing ballad should've been on the standard edition instead of "Double Dutch Bus". 10/10
Raven was working on her fifth album but she ended up scrapping it because it apparently wasn't sell able. It's a shame because I really wanted to hear it. Hopefully it'll be released one day. My favorite songs on this album are: "Anti-Love Song", "What Are You Gonna Do?", "Love Me or Leave Me", "Face to Face", "That Girl", and "In The Pictures". Out of 140 points I give it 111 points which is 79%, a C+. Awesome job Raven!
