I bet everyone thought I was gonna review the fourth "Instant Star" soundtrack given the order I was going in. But I decided to do the greatest hits soundtrack instead. The soundtrack was released on September 22nd, 2009, the same day the fourth "Songs from Instant Star" soundtrack was released in the U.S. Strange given that the fourth soundtrack was released on June 17th, 2008 in Canada. The greatest hits soundtracks features "Alexz Johnson" on but one song on the soundtrack. The song she doesn't sing on is sung by "Tyler Kyte". "Cory Lee" is on one song with "Alexz". Here's my track by track review:
1) Temporary Insanity (Remix): This song is from the first "Instant Star" soundtrack. The song was remixed and re-recorded for the soundtrack. The instrumental sounds almost exactly the same as the original with a little change during the verses. Also the "Da da da" parts that "Alexz" did on the first verse are not on this version. The song still sounds amazing. 10/10
2) Liar Liar (Remix): Like "Temporary Insanity", this song was also remixed. Although I was terrified what the remixed version of this song would sound like because the song is one of my favorites on the second soundtrack. Thankfully the remixed version is very similar to the original version which made me happy. So glad it didn't get a drastic change. 10/10
3) 24 Hours: The first and only single from the first "Instant Star" soundtrack. Given that it was the only song from any of the soundtracks to get a video, it was obvious that it would be included. It was also the first song to be played on the series. Glad it was included on this album. 10/10
4) Let Me Fall: My favorite song from the first soundtrack. It's an amazing ballad that a lot of people can relate to and I'm happy it's on here. 10/10
5) Skin: You can't have make an "Instant Star" greatest hits album without including "Skin". To this day it's still the most download song from the series. Not surprising given it's powerful lyrics, the amazing acoustic guitar played throughout the song, and of course "Alexz's" perfect vocals. It's a raw track that will give you chills. 10/10
6) How Strong Do You Think I Am: The first and only single from the second "Instant Star" soundtrack. Out of all the songs from the "Instant Star" series, this is my favorite song. It's an empowering pop/rock song that I love so much. Happy to see it made the greatest hits album. 10/10
7) There's Us: Why was this put on this greatest hits album? I'm sorry but I feel the song is too slow and too long. If the rock version of the song was included I'd be okay but I'm not. I wish they put "Natural Disaster" on this album instead. 4/10
8) Anyone But You: While I would've loved for the acoustic version that was partially played in the second season episode "When I Come Around", I'm glad the original version of the song is on the album because it's fun to air-guitar to. 10/10
9) White Lines: The song is an amazing ballad that a lot of fans who watched the show love as well. It's also the last song from the second "Instant Star" soundtrack to be included. 9/10
10) I Will Be the Flame: The song was sung by "Cory Lee" on the third season soundtrack but the version on this album is sung by both "Cory Lee" and "Alexz Johnson". This was due to popular demand after the two sang part of the song in the third season episode "Like a Virgin". "Cory" sings the first verse, "Alexz" sings the second verse, and they sing the chorus together. It makes it an awesome song and they sound great together. 10/10
11) I Don't Know If I Should Stay: While it is an amazing ballad, I'm a little surprised it's on the great hits album. I feel "Where Does It Hurt" should've been on the album instead given that it was a single. 7/10
12) Unraveling: This song is sung by "Tyler Kyte". While I'm sad that "Alexz's" version of the song wasn't included, I'm glad "Tyler's" version of the song is on here because his version is amazing and fun to rock out to. So happy it's on the album. 10/10
13) Perfect: This song is on the fourth season soundtrack only on the soundtrack it is sung by "Lights" but it was sung by "Alexz" in the episode "Us and Them". "Alexz's" version of the song is put on the soundtrack. It's good to hear "Alexz's" version but the song sounds WAY too high. I wish they would've included "Deeper" or her versions of "The Music" or "Ultraviolet" on the album instead. 4/10
14) I Just Wanted Your Love: While it was on the "Instant Star" episode "Not An Addict" it was not included on the fourth season soundtrack. The song was written by "Alexz" and her brother "Brendan Johnson". Glad to see that's on here. 9/10
While I wish they would've included "Deeper", "Natural Disater, "Alexz's" versions of "Unraveling", "The Music", "Darkness Round the Sun"...this list will go on and on at this rate... I'm happy that show got to release a greatest hits album. My favorite songs are: "How Strong Do You Think I Am", "Anyone But You", "Liar Liar (Remix)", "Skin", "Let Me Fall", "I Will Be the Flame", "Unraveling", "Temporary Insanity (Remix)", and "24 Hours". Out of 140 points I give the album 123 which is 87%, a B+.
Thank you for reading this reviews and leave some comments telling which songs you like from this album and which songs you wish were included on it.
