Today I'll be reviewing the soundtrack, "Songs from Instant Star Three". Unlike the first two soundtracks, this one features "Tyler Kyte", "Cory Lee", "Damhnait Doyle", "Lindsay Robins", and of course "Alexz Johnson" whereas on the first two "Alexz" sang all the songs". "Alexz" sang a total of 10 songs on the show but her label "Capital Records" has produced legal issues which led to "Alexz" only having four songs on the soundtrack. Here's my track by track review:
1) Where Does It Hurt: This was the first and only single from the album. The song is a ballad about a friend who's going through a hard time and the narrator tells them that they are there for them because that friend has always been there for the narrator when they've been in a rough spot. The song was played in the third season finale episode "All I Want Is You". Great song that was sung by "Alexz". 10/10
2) Waste My Time: This song was on the first "Instant Star" soundtrack but it was sung by "Alexz Johnson". The version on this album is sung by "Cory Lee" who played "Karma" on the show. The song was played in the episodes "Lose Yourself", "Like a Virgin", and a small clip in "Start Me Up". "Cory" is a good singer but "Alexz's" version of the song is better in my opinion. 6/10
3) What You Need: "Tyler Kyte" sang this song. I already reviewed the song in my review of his album "Talking Pictures". The version is a little bit different than the one of his album though. It was played in the episode "Nowhere to Run". 10/10
4) I Don't Know If I Should Stay: This song was performed by "Alexz" in season three's first episode"Lose Yourself". It is a ballad that showcases "Alexz's" amazing vocals but it's not my favorite on the album. 8/10
5) Just the Beginning: "Alexz" sang the song on the show's episode "Heart of Gold" but for the soundtrack it was performed by "Damhnait Doyle" who co-wrote the show. "Alexz's" version of the song leaked a few years after the soundtrack was released though. I like "Alexz's" version of the song more. 8/10
6) Love to Burn: "Alexz" sang the song in the episodes "18 Part 1" and "18 Part 2" but the version on the soundtrack is sung by "Cory Lee". "Cory" sings the song very well and her voice works really well with the R&B beat but I like "Alexz's" version of the song more. (Be prepared to see this a couple more times.) "Alexz's" version of the song leaked a few years after the soundtrack was released. 8/10
7) Unravelling: "Alexz" sang the song in the third season episode "Nowhere to Run" and the series finale episode "London Calling." The version on the album is performed by "Tyler Kyte". "Tyler's" version of the song is awesome and I'm actually not sure whether I like "Tyler's" version or "Alexz's" version more. To this day, only clips of "Alexz's" version have leaked and the full version hasn't leaked fully yet. It's an amazing song. 10/10
8) Don't You Dare: A piano ballad that is sung by "Alexz". It was featured in the episode "The Long & Winding Road" and while "Alexz" sings amazing on the song, I don't listen to the song that much. 8/10
9) I Will Be the Flame: This song was performed by "Cory" in the episode "Like A Virgin". On the episode "Alexz's" character sings the song with "Cory's" character. It's a pretty good song. 9/10
10) Worth Waiting For: It was performed by "Alexz" in the episode "Start Me Up". On the soundtrack it is performed by "Tyler". Like "Unravelling", "Alexz's" version of the song has not leaked fully yet. The clips of "Alexz's" version that have leaked are really good though. 9/10
11) Darkness Round the Sun: This song actually has 4 versions. "Zoie Palmer", who played "Patsy Sewer" sang a little bit of it in the episode "Helter Skelter". "Alexz" sang an acoustic version of the song in the episode "Let It Be", which was the episode where "Alexz" won a "Gemini Award for Best Performance in a Children's or Youth Program or Series". The third version is sung by "Damhnait Doyle" whose version appears on the soundtrack. The fourth version is musically similar to "Damhait" but is sung by "Alexz". All versions of the song are amazing and it's my favorite song on the album. 10/10
12) Shooting Star: On the show it was sung by "Zoie Palmer" in the episode "Start Me Up" but the soundtrack has "Lindsay Robins" singing the song. It's an awesome rock song and I don't listen to it as much as I should. 8/10
13) The Breakdown: Performed by "Alexz" on both the soundtrack and in the episode "Celebrity Skin". It was written by "Alexz's" brother "Brendan Johnson" and I love the song. I don't understand why it's not as popular as it should be. 10/10
14) No Shoes, No Shirt: The song is performed by "Cory" and was featured as in the episode "Sympathy For The Devil". It was also released as a single from "Cory's" album, "Sinful Innocence" under the name "No Shoes, No Shirt, No Service". I don't really listen to the song that much and I don't want it seem that I'm hating on "Cory Lee" on anything like that because she is a great singer. 7/10
The third season soundtrack is really good but it would've been better if the versions of the songs that "Alexz" did on the show were on the soundtrack. While most of "Alexz's" versions of the songs were leaked, "Unravelling" and "Worth Waiting For" have not leaked in full despite it being 10 years since the release of the soundtrack. My favorite songs on the album are: "Darkness Round the Sun", "The Breakdown", "Where Does It Hurt", "Unravelling", "What You Need", and "Worth Waiting For". Out of 140 points I give the album 121 points which is 86%, a B+.
Thanks for reading this review and if you haven't take a listen to the music from "Instant Star" because it's awesome!
