1) Saviour: This is the first single from the album. The song talks about how she wants someone to save her, hence the title. Light also cried while writing this song. The video for the song is almost like a preview to the "Drive My Soul" video released a year before this song. I love the lyrics and think the song is beautiful. 10/10
2) Drive My Soul: The first single from her "Lights" ep. The song is her most successful single in Canada to date. The song is about the fear of a people leaving your life because they make everything better and you don't know how you'll be without them. The song had a space themed video. 10/10
3) River: This is my favorite song on the album. The song is about getting tired of the life your living and wanting to find a place where you belong. Who can relate to this? I wish it was released as a single but an acoustic version of the single was released. 10/10
4) The Listening: The title track. The song was also the second single from the album, but without a video it went completely unnoticed. The lyrics for the song are pretty straightforward, she's basically saying how it's hard to speak because you're too nervous or don't know what to say. 10/10
5) Ice: The third single from the album as well as the third single from her "Lights" ep. The song had 2 videos. The first one involved cardboard cutouts of Lights getting away from monsters as well as her fighting the monsters in real life. The second video involved her fighting an evil version of herself. I like this song and it's different the previous ones. 10/10
6) Pretend: I used to hate this song when I first git the album. Then one day I looked at the lyrics and got sad because I could relate to them. The song is about missing the good old days when you were a kid when everything was easy. It makes me sad. 9/10
7) The Last Thing on Your Mind: I'm pretty sure everyone has heard this song at least once. The song was used in Old Navy commercial. The song was on her "Lights" ep and was remixed for this album. That being said, it took me awhile to like this song. 8/10
8) Second Go: The fourth and final single from the album. The video for the song showed Lights painting a white house. While I was shocked this song was a single I still like it. I always liked the lyric "how can you save me, when I am angry, reasons I'll never know". 9/10
9) February Air: The second single from her "Lights" ep. This was the song that made me a fan of hers. There are two videos for the song. The first was released in 2006 and the second one, which is more known, once again was a space themed video. The video was also the sequel to the "Drive My Soul" video. It's basically a love song. 10/10
10) Face Up: This song is an empowering song, saying to keep your face up even if your depressed things will get better. I like it. 8/10
11) Lions!: Apparently this song was inspired by "World of Warcraft", or at least that's what some people like. I find that strange but then again I don't play that game so I can't judge. Still a good song nonetheless. 8/10
12) Quiet: The beginning part is just plain strange. The song is about denying feelings for someone. While it's really relatable, I can't get past that beginning part. 8/10
13) Pretend (Reprise): A shorter, slower version of "Pretend". Great way to end the album but I like the original version more. 7/10
Lights' first album is amazing, and while her second album "Siberia" leaned more towards a dub-step kind of sound, "The Listening" still remains a great album. My favorite songs on the album are: "River", "Ice", "Drive My Soul", "Saviour", "February Air", "The Listening", "Pretend", and "Second Go". Out of 130 points I give the album 117 which is 90%, an A. Awesome!
