I honestly had no ideas on what album I should review today so I decided to look through my cd's and found A*Teens' "Pop 'til You Drop!" album. The album was released in 2002, but I got the album in 2006 when I got back into listening to them. So here's my track by track review:
1) Floorfiller: The second single from the album. The song didn't chart in the U.S. but it peaked at number 4 in Sweden. The video featured the group in a club dancing, as well as the group performing the song. 9/10
2) Can't Help Falling in Love: The first single from the album. It is a cover that was originally performed by "Elvis Presley". The song was also on "Lilo & Stitch Movie Soundtrack". Because of that, the song had two videos. They did a great cover of the song. 9/10
3) Let Your Heart Do All the Talking: The third and final single from the album. I hated the song so much when I heard it the first but as time when on I started to like the song more. The song was supposed to have a video but it scrapped because the A*Teens were on tour. 9/10
4) Closer to Perfection: This is one of my favorite songs on the album. It's an upbeat song about getting over a breakup. It's very empowering and fun to dance to. Why wasn't it released as a single?!?! 10/10
5) Hi and Goodbye: This is a ballad about how two people are after they breakup and how it's awkward when they run into each other. 8/10
6) This Year: I first heard this song on the "Kim Possible soundtrack". It's an okay song but it doesn't really standout. I was surprised to find out that it was a cover song. It was originally performed by "Chantal Kreviazuk" who written songs for "Kelly Clarkson", "Avril Lavigne", and "The Veronicas". I kinda like Chantal's version a little more. 7/10
7) Slam: While the song is more upbeat and more danceable (is that a word?) than "Floorfiller" it kinda gets annoying pretty quick. I used to love the song but over the years it has gotten kinda annoying. 6/10
8) Cross My Heart: Another one of my favorites on the about. The song is about promising to love someone no matter what. I think it'd fit perfectly in a Romeo and Juliet movie, if the movie uses upbeat pop songs of course... Anyway still a great song. 10/10
9) Singled Out: This song made me hate being single for awhile. Probably why I don't listen to the song that much (LOL). Anyway it's a ballad about feeling alone when you see couples being "lovey dovey". Vocals are great but I since I like being single I don't listen to song that much. Don't judge me! 8/10
10) Oh, Oh... Yeah: This song was initially called "Sugar" cause of the lyric, "Sugar ain't as sweet as you" but it was changed to avoid confusion of the group's single "Sugar Rush" from "Teen Spirit". Regardless of the name of the song, it's a great song and I really like it. 9/10
11) In the Blink of an Eye: This song is a ballad about how your problems will disappear in the blink of an eye (oh if only life was that simple!) Still a great song. 8/10
12) School's Out (featuring Alice Cooper): When I first heard the song, I had no idea it was a cover. Now keep in mind, I was 16 when I first heard it and listened to mostly pop and the only rock music I listened to was Linkin Park so don't be mad at me! The song was originally performed by "Alice Cooper" who is featured on this version. The song was supposed to be the second single from the album but for unknown reasons, it was changed to "Floorfiller". 7/10
"Pop 'til You Drop!" was the last A*Teens album to be released in the U.S. Outside the U.S., the A*Teens released "New Arrival" and a "Greatest Hits" album before calling it quits. My favorite songs on the album are: "Closer to Perfection", "Cross My Heart", "Oh, Oh... Yeah", "Can't Help Falling in Love", and "Floorfiller". Out of 120 points I give the album 100 points which is 71%, a C. Thank for reading the review, hope you liked it!
