Today I will be reviewing "The Veronicas'" second album, "Hook Me Up". "Hook Me Up" was released 2 years after the twin's first album "The Secret Life of..." and was more of a pop/ dance-pop album whereas their first album was pop/rock. Here's my track by track review:
1) Untouched: The second single from the album. When I heard this song, I was excited about the album because it sounded cool. The song is their most successful song in the U.S. peaking at number 17 on the charts. The song and video have a dark vibe but both are awesome. 10/10
2) Hook Me Up: The first single from the album. The song is about being tired of how your life is and want to get away from it for a little bit. Lyrically it's great but the music is kinda boring. The song became their first number 1 in Australia. 7/10
3) This Is How It Feels: The music overpowers the girl's vocals on this one. The song is about how a guy is trying to get back with his ex but she doesn't want him back because he was the one who broke her heart and ended the relationship. 7/10
4) This Love: The third single from the album. This song was co-written by "Ke$ha". The song is about being in love with someone and not wanting to end the relationship because this person is the one. It's a pretty good song. 9/10
5) I Can't Stay Away: Apparently this song was a promo single that was released around the same time as the album's fourth single, "Take Me on the Floor". It is one of two songs that the twins didn't write on, the other being "This Love". The song is about not being able to stay away from a person despite the fact that they're bad for you. The song has a dark vibe and it's one of my favorites on the album. Wish it had a video. 10/10
6) Take Me on the Floor: The fourth single on the album. When the girls stated in an interview that when they wrote the song, they were thinking about having fun. The video caused a little bit of controversy, so when the song was released in the U.S. a video of the girls performing the song on tour. It's a pretty good song. 10/10
7) I Don't Wanna Wait: The song starts out with a weird intro and then it goes "I Don't Wanna Wait" five times. The song is about not wanting to wait for a guy to make a move. I don't really listen to this one much. 6/10
8) Popular: The fifth and final single from the album. On this song the verses are rapped. The song is about someone who feels their better than everyone. The girls wrote song the song as a joke to the celebrity life. It's fun to dance to. I only wish the song had a video. 10/10
9) Revenge Is Sweeter (Than You Ever Were): From a fun song to a serious one. The song is about how a relationship ended because the person you were with cheated on you and broke your heart. This song should've been a single instead of "Hook Me Up". It's one of my favorites. 10/10
10) Someone Wake Me Up: The song is a ballad about a breakup that doesn't feel real. It also doesn't help that both people have the same friends so when they see each other it kills the narrator of the song. It's a great song that, like many songs on this album, should've had a video. 10/10
11) All I Have: In this song the narrator makes the mistake of cheating on her boyfriend and though the boyfriend forgives and stays with them, the narrator still feels guilty for being unfaithful and wishes that it never happened. The verses are amazing but the chorus isn't as good. 8/10
12) In Another Life: This is a ballad about how two people had promised each other they'd marry when they get older, but as time went on you changed and can't fulfill that promise and maybe they'll be together in another life. The girls cried while recording this amazing song. 8/10
"Hook Me Up" is pretty good album and it's strange to think that the album was released almost 8 years ago. My favorite songs are: "Untouched", "Revenge Is Sweeter (Than You Ever Were)", "I Can't Stay Away", "Popular", "Someone Wake Me Up", and "Take Me on the Floor". Out of 120 points I give the album 105 points which is 87%, a B+. Thank you for reading this review!
