Billie Piper: Walk of Life Album Review

When most people think Billie Piper they either think "Rose Tyler" from "Doctor Who" or "Brona Croft" in "Penny Dreadful" but before she was an actress, Billie Piper was a singer.  She had two albums, "Honey to the B" and "Walk of Life" before leaving the music business and doing acting.  Today I'll be reviewing her second and final album, "Walk of Life" so here's my track by track review:

1) Day & Night: The first single from the album.  The song was Billie's third and final number 1  in the UK.  The song was produced by Stargate who's produced songs for Rihanna, Samantha Mumba, Beyonce, etc.  The video featured Billie in a nightclub and later at a laundromat.  Great song and perfect first single.  10/10

2) Something Deep Inside: The second single from the album.  The version on the album is the radio mix, unless you got the Japanese version of the album then it's the original version.  Billie has said that she regrets the releasing the song.  The song hit number 4 in the UK and in the video Billie was in a futuristic house where she did some dance moves.  It's an okay song.  8/10

3) Walk of Life: The third and final single, as well as the title track.  The song is Billie's last single as well as her lowest charting single in the UK, peaking at number 25.  The song was a ballad that is really good and the video was also pretty good.  10/10

4) Safe with Me: This song should've been a single!  The song is a ballad about how someone is sad and the narrator tells that person to tell them what's wrong because their secret is safe with them.  10/10

5) Bring It On: This was co-written by Kara DioGuardi who has written songs for Delta Goodrem, Hilary Duff, Christina Aguilera.  It's kinda a mixture of latin pop meets pop/rock vibe to it.  I ignored at first but after a couple listens I liked it.  9/10

6) Ring My Bell: This song has a sexy vibe to it.  I thought the song was stupid at first but the song's kinda grown on me.  8/10

7) The Tide Is High: This song is a cover song that was originally performed by "The Paragons" and made famous by "Blondie".  The song was supposed to the fourth single from the album but after a court case against a woman who had sent Billie, her friends, and family death threats Billie told her label not to release it because she was worn out and done with singing.  While I understand why she did that, I still wish it had a video because she did a great version of the song.  10/10

8) Run That by Me: This song is weird.  Billie sounds tried on this song and I also find the lyric, "I get crushed while you never mind" mainly cause I thought she was singing "I get crushed wine never mind".  Don't laugh, that's how I heard the lyric!  7/10

9) Promises: The song is a great ballad.  The song is about not needing to make promises because they are hard to keep.  I like the song and I don't listen to it as much as I should.  8/10

10) Because of You: This song is okay but is very forgettable.  It's not bad but it doesn't stand out much.  5/10

11) What Game Is This?: In this song Billie questions her lover why he's lying about cheating on her when it's completely obvious.  This is my favorite song on the album, I love the lyric "when you go from my house, creeping quiet as a mouse".  I would've loved to see a video for this song.  10/10

12) Misfocusing: This song talks about how Billie wants people to focus on the real her and not the one they hear about on tv.  Lyrically amazing but the overall is kinda boring.  6/10

"Walk of Life" is Billie's last album before ending her music career in favor of acting.  I wish she would've taken "Run That by Me", "Because of You", and "Misfocusing" off the album and replaced them with "First Love", "Makin' My Way", and "Caress the Gold".  Then the album would've been perfect.  My favorite songs on the album are: "What Game Is This?", "Day & Night", "Safe with Me", "The Tide Is High", "Walk of Life" and "Bring It On".  Out of 120 points I give the album 101 points which is 84%, a B.  Amazing album and if you haven't checked it out you should.  Thanks for reading this review!
